Brice repaired the East Cut-Off Dike within the Chena Floodplain as well as the project road and bike path that were showing signs of wear. Repairs to the East Cutoff Dike included stabilizing over three miles of access road, raising over one mile of dike, and building a turnaround pad. Brice hauled and placed approximately 3,900 cubic yards of specified material to perform this repair work.
We sealed approximately 20,000 linear feet of cracks in the asphalt, and performed the saw-cutting, removal, and replacement of approximately 400 square feet of asphalt and base material, over five miles of traffic striping, and over 530 feet of guardrail installation.
Brice performed limited engineering as part of this project. Specifically, we conducted engineering surveys – pre-construction, after grading, and post-construction. We created cross sections and calculated cut and fill volumes. We also adjusted the design of a turnaround pad to minimize the amount of fill to be placed.
The project site is located 18 miles southeast of Fairbanks, Alaska near the community of North Pole. Severe wet weather and other unforeseen conditions hampered progress. Despite the challenging conditions, Brice completed the project safely, and within schedule and budget.
